On September 21, 1996 police were dispatched to 6125-A Harrison-Ooltewah Road to take a report on missing person complaint. Bobby Caudill reported that had he had not seen or heard from his daughter Paula Michelle Burnett, since September 17, 1996.
Investigation identified the victim as:

Mr. Caudill reported that Paula had called him on September 16, 1996 and asked him to come stay overnight because she was afraid that her husband Donald Ray Burnette may harm her, because she had called the police on him earlier that day and had him kicked out.
Mr. Caudill also report that on September 17, 1996 Mr. Burnette contacted him and said that Paula needed him to pick up the kids, she needed a vacation. Mr. Caudill has not heard from her since.
On October 10, 1996 police received a call from citizen that had found the driver license belonging to Paula Burnette at Harrison Bay and Birchwood Pike. .
