Sheriff Jim Hammond Presents Challenge Coin to Sammy Sawyer “aka” Barney Fife at Woodland Park Baptist Church Senior Event
Hamilton County, TN – This morning, Sheriff Jim Hammond and Chief Deputy Austin Garrett participated in a special program for the senior citizens at Woodland Park Baptist Church featuring renowned impersonator and Christian speaker, Sammy Sawyer.
Sammy Sawyer is best known for his impersonation of longtime Andy Griffith Show character, Barney Fife. Mr. Sawyer performs a Christian-based comedy routine for groups across the southeast United States dressed as Barney Fife.
“Many of us have grown up watching the Andy Griffith Show and enjoyed the moral values exhibited by its many colorful and unforgettable characters throughout the years,” stated Sheriff Jim Hammond. “Mr. Sawyer brings to life the character of Barney Fife and uses his comedic act to bring amusement, hope, and the word of God to those who have the privilege to enjoy one of his many presentations,” he further noted.
During today’s event, Sheriff Hammond and Chief Deputy Austin Garrett presented Mr. Sawyer a challenge coin and Sheriff’s Foundation knife as part of the morning’s festivities.
Mr. Sawyer is the pastor at New Beverly Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee and a former Sheriff’s Deputy with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
