HCSO Finance and Accounting Personnel Receive Commendations Earn Prestigious CTAS

Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this morning, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond and Chief Deputy Austin Garrett presented HCSO Finance Manager Jack Ellis and Accounts Manager Carolyn Catchings with commendations for their efforts to earn the prestigious Certified County Financial Officer designation.

The Certified County Financial Officer (CCFO) designation is a program developed and administered through the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office and the University of Tennessee’s County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS). It is designed to provide Tennessee’s financial officers an opportunity to learn about accounting and financial reporting principles, understand how county governments are structured in Tennessee, and enhance their skills in order to carry out their responsibilities for the fiscal affairs of their county or office.

In order to successfully pass the requirements for the CCFO designation, Finance Manager Ellis and Accounts Manager Catchings were required to attend monthly classes for a year, hundreds of hours of independent study, and the ability to pass stringent testing.

“Chief Deputy Garrett and I are very proud of Finance Manager Ellis and Accounts Manager Catchings for their hard work and efforts to obtain this prestigious, professional designation,” stated Sheriff Jim Hammond. “They have each made an important personal investment in their career and the knowledge and principles they have gained by earning this designation will be of great use to the HCSO and our fiscal operations,” he further noted.

The dedication, attention to detail, and professionalism shown by Finance Manager Ellis and Accounts Manager Catchings to achieve this designation exemplifies the role of a dedicated public servant and are in keeping with the highest standards of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
