Student arrested for Carrying a Weapon on school property
This morning at approximately 8:20 a.m., the principal of East Lake Academy, Charles Joynes, was advised by several students that another student had a gun on his person. The principal brought the student, who had been suspended from school yesterday, inside to the Guidance Counselors office. The principal found a .22 caliber unloaded handgun and knife concealed on his person. The School Resource Officer, Yolanda Ward was contacted and took custody of the evidence. She transported the student to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of Carrying a Weapon on School Property and Criminal Trespass.
