The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was called to 6229 Bay Shore Drive earlier this morning at approximately 11:26 a. m. for a mental health well being check on William Scott Merritt w/m age 49. Information received by law enforcement was that Mr. Merritt was armed and would kill everyone.

Deputies spoke with family members before making contact with Mr. Merritt and found that he threatened to kill them last night while holding a weapon. They also relayed to law enforcement, he had a large number of rifles and semi-automatic weapons.

Negotiations were initated with the suspect and after a time he walked out onto the back porch of the residence and was taken into custody by SWAT members.

This incident ended with no injuries to the suspect or law enforcement. William Scott Merritt was transported, charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault/Domestic.

This investigation will continue.
