Escape Attempt Stopped by Deputies
On Monday, August 26, 2013 at approximately 4:50 p.m., alert officers working at the Hamilton County Jail quickly picked up on the attempt of Kenneth Burnum who was posing as another inmate set to be released. When officers went to the holding cell and called the name of the inmate who was set to be released, Inmate Burnum stepped up claiming to be him. He then signed two bonds and the property sheet belonging to the other inmate and was moved over to Central Control. There officers doing the final identity verification process before release, discovered the actual inmate who was set for release was a black male and Kenneth Burnum is a white male.
The training and diligence by the officers working in the jail certainly eliminated the possibility of the wrong person being released. Inmate Kenneth Burnum was charged with Criminal Impersonation and Attempted Escape.
