HCSO Corrections Personnel Earn Professional Designation
Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this morning, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond, Deputy Chief of Corrections, Joe Fowler, and Captain Gene Coppinger formally recognized (5) jail personnel who recently achieved the prestigious Certified Corrections Officer (CCO) designation from the American Correctional Association. Also on hand for the ceremony were numerous Corrections Division personnel.
Prior to obtaining this important certification, applicants qualify on the basis of experience and accomplishments in the field of corrections. They must then successfully complete a comprehensive examination that tests their knowledge as a Corrections Officer.
The CCO designation is an indication of demonstrated professionalism involving such activities as managing and communicating with both staff and offenders, maintaining a healthy, safe, sanitary environment, maintaining control over hazardous equipment and tools, and participating in various levels of correctional training.
The certification program itself is designed to advance the overall knowledge level of practitioners in the correctional field, thus ensuring they are aware of the most current and innovative approaches. It promotes the capabilities of correctional professionals to the general public and enhances society’s image of correctional personnel.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the American Correctional Association congratulates the following staff for their achievement.
Corrections Sergeant Robert Lackey – CCS
Corrections Corporal Jonathan Walker – CCO
Corrections Corporal Paul Donahue – CCS
Corrections Deputy Kevin Lewis – CCO
Corrections Deputy Michael Craig – CCO
