HCSO Investigates In-Custody Death

12/28/2018

Hamilton County, TN – On December 16, 2018, Devonte Allison was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a variety of charges including Selling/Delivery/Manufacturing of Meth and Possession of a Firearm from Criminal Court with a bond of $14,000.

Allison was booked having pre-existing medical issues.

On December 24th, after experiencing severe seizures, Inmate Allison was transported via HCEMS to a local medical hospital where he has remained in critical condition.

Hospital staff were in contact with Allison’s family and kept them informed of his medical condition and prognosis. Corrections Division staff permitted Allison’s family to see him prior to his death. It is also important to note that Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office detectives were also notified of Allison’s declining health so as to review and prepare for his passing.

Allison passed away in a local hospital early this morning.

As with all in-custody deaths, Hamilton County District Attorney Neil Pinkston has requested the death to be investigated. In accordance with this, he has appointed the Hamilton County Sheriff’s to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office would like to note inmates are routinely booked into the Hamilton County Jail with a variety of medical issues including some that pertain to serious, chronic and/or terminal diseases, etc. Inmates are provided care by contractual medical personnel onsite from Erlanger Medical Center. When inmates need medical care that cannot be provided at the jail by contract Erlanger staff, they are transported to a hospital to ensure proper, necessary care is administered.

As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.
