HCSO Re-Entry Program Hosts Inmate Job Fair at Silverdale Detention Center
Hamilton County, TN – On Tuesday, November 30, 2021, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Correction’s Division Re-Entry Program hosted an employment fair for inmates who were nearing their release date. This year, over (20) employers and social services based organizations participated in the fair.
This year’s employment fair, designed for inmates participating in the HCSO Re-Entry Program at Silverdale, the opportunity to speak with employers and social service based organizations about employment, financial and spiritual counseling, substance abuse and recovery services, and housing.
“I am very proud of the incredible work being accomplished each day by our Re-Entry Team, led by Re-Entry Supervisor Wendy Harris, at the Silverdale Detention Center. Yesterday’s job fair is just one example of our focused and deliberate efforts to help provide the men and women in our care with the tools and resources necessary to successfully re-enter our community, break the cycle of recidivism, and live a more productive life,” stated Chief Deputy Austin Garrett.
In preparation for yesterday’s event, HCSO Re-Entry Program staff held classes to help inmates document their job skills, create personalized resumes, and participate in occupational counseling. Altogether, approximately 30 inmates participated in the job counseling exercise. The goal of today’s event was to help inmates’ secure stable housing and employment upon their scheduled release.
