Hamilton County, TN – Yesterday, School Resource Deputy Sergeant Matthew Purvis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant by Sheriff Jim Hammond. In addition to his new duties, Lieutenant Purvis serves as the Team Leader for the HCSO’s Marine Patrol and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit (UAS).

Lieutenant Purvis was born and raised in Kenner, Louisiana, a small suburb outside of New Orleans. Prior to his employment with the HCSO, he served for approximately five years in the Kenner Police Department in Kenner, Louisiana. He and his family moved to Chattanooga in October of 2005 shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit the New Orleans area in August of 2005.

He officially began his career with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in March of 2006, promoted to Corporal in 2010, and promoted to Sergeant in 2017.
