Corrections Personnel Awarded Commendations
HCSO Corrections Sergeant Jeremy Poteet and Corrections Deputy Nicholas Helton Awarded Commendations
Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this morning, in recognition of their efforts to save the life of an inmate housed in the Delta Housing Unit at the Silverdale Detention Center on April 26th, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Sergeant Jeremy Poteet and Corrections Deputy Nicholas Helton were awarded commendations and challenge coins by Sheriff Jim Hammond.
Whereas, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at approximately 10:40 am, a call for an unresponsive inmate was reported by personnel assigned to the Delta Housing Unit. Corrections Sergeant Jeremy Poteet quickly arrived on scene along with Corrections Deputy Nicholas Helton and together, moved the inmate to the safety of the common area.
Sergeant Poteet and Corrections Deputy Helton immediately began working together to assess the situation and determined the inmate was in cardiac arrest from a possible drug overdose. They quickly began CPR and the rapid administration of NARCAN. Following the administration of CPR and NARCAN, the inmate began to breathe on his own and without the assistance.
Corrections Sergeant Jeremy Poteet and Corrections Deputy Nicholas Helton utilized their medical training and skills to assess this potentially deadly situation and heroically provided the care necessary to save this inmate’s life.
