Traffic fatality on Dayton Pike
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was called to 15800 Dayton Pike earlier this morning on a reported traffic crash involving two vehicles. When deputies arrived on the scene they found that a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis traveling south bound, crossed the centerline after hitting ice, going into the north bound lane of traffic. The Mercury was hit by a 2010 Dodge Caravan.
The 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis was operated by Marvin Whitmire age 80 and his wife Dorothy Whitmire age 78 both of Spring City, was a passenger. Mrs. Whitmire was pronounced dead at the scene and Mr. Whitmire was transported to Erlanger Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the 2010 Dodge Caravan was identified as Leroy King age 44 from Dublin, Ohio, who was transported to Erlanger Medical Center as well as three passengers. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening.
Initial investigation of the crash reveals that the roadway and particularly the bridge, was extremely icy and this is a factor regarding the cause of the crash. The investigation is continuing and being investigated by Deputy Eddie Sledge with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.
