Two HCSO Corrections Deputies Awarded Life Saving Medal
Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this morning, Sheriff Austin Garrett presented two Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Deputies the agency’s Life Saving Medal for their actions to save the lives of two inmates during their course of their daily duties in two separate incidents.
Corrections Deputy William Miller was awarded the Life Saving Medal for his efforts to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on a choking female inmate and successfully save her life by dislodging the obstruction on March 12, 2023.
Corrections Deputy Aziza Williams was awarded the Life Saving Medal for her efforts to perform CPR on an unresponsive female inmate at the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center on August 23, 2023. Her efforts helped to save the life of the inmate.
The HCSO recently instituted the presentation of the following medals for exceptional acts of bravery, heroism, life preservation, and meritorious service.

• Life Saving Medal
• Sheriff’s Star
• Medal of Merit
“Each and every day, the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office perform above and beyond their assigned duties, the majority of which, go unnoticed to the general public. Their actions, particularly those that rise to the level of life preservation, which is one of our most fundamental roles in public safety, should be highly regarded and acknowledged. I was honored and privileged to present the first two Life Saving Medals this morning to Corrections Deputies’ William Miller and Aziza Williams,” stated Sheriff Austin Garrett.
