HCSO Traffic Investigator Jason Smith Graduates Motor Operator School
Hamilton County, TN – Please join Sheriff Austin Garrett and the HCSO Traffic Unit as we congratulate Traffic Investigator Jason Smith upon successfully completing the Basic Law Enforcement Motorcycle Operator School hosted by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office in Gallatin, Tennessee.
This two-week (80-hour) school is a very difficult and rigorous course designed to teach motor officers and deputies how to operate a motor in a law enforcement capacity. This course includes low and high-speed maneuvers, operation on different surfaces such as grass, gravel, dirt, and pavement, as well as tactical maneuvers, operating in low-light conditions with emergency lights activated, and other law enforcement riding techniques.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office instructors are considered “elite” riders due to their level of skill by competing in police motorcycle skills competitions. These instructors teach the students basic, intermediate and advanced techniques which makes them better operators and instills more confidence in operating a motorcycle safely.
The techniques taught by instructors throughout this course demonstrate to students the versatility of a motorcycle and how they can be used to respond to places that can often be difficult to access by cars and trucks. These areas include situations where heavy vehicle or pedestrian traffic exists or where the terrain varies, and space is extremely limited.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit for allowing our personnel to participate in this course and we congratulate Investigator Smith on passing the school and becoming a P.O.S.T. approved Motor Deputy!
