"Safe Journey" child passenger car seat checks
Sheriff Jim Hammond is proud to announce that with the recent addition of the “Safe Journey” team which includes Becky Campbell, Janet Howerton and Sharon Patten, the first child safety seat check event will be held on September 7, 2010 at the Sheriff’s West Annex located at 6233 Dayton Blvd. from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Starting in September, the team will be at the Sheriff’s West Annex on the first Tuesday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and at the Highway 58 K-Mart on the second Tuesday of each month from 11:00 to 1:00. Other dates and locations will be announced for safety seat checks in the up-coming future.
“Safe Journey” addresses occupant protection and the correct use of child passenger devices through public and professional education. Child restraint reduces the risk of death and injury and there is strong evidence that child safety laws, safety seat distribution as well as education programs are effective in increasing safety seat use.
The “Safe Journey” program is funded through a grant from the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office, and administered through the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
