Traffic crash fatality on Hunter Road
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was called to 5438 Hunter Road early this afternoon at approximately 12:30 p.m. on a reported vehicle crash. When deputies arrived on the scene they found two vehicles involved, one a 1992 Grand Prix and a 2002 Ford Explorer pulling a camper trailer. The Grand Prix was traveling west bound on Hunter Road with five occupants that included the adult driver and four juveniles, ages three to sixteen. The Ford Explorer was traveling east bound on Hunter Road with one adult occupant identified as Charles Shavis, Jr. age 57 of Cleveland, Tennessee. Mr. Shavis sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the 1992 Grand Prix was identified as Victor Carr, age 30 of Ooltewah who died from the injuries he sustained in the crash. One of the four juvenile occupants, an eight year old was transported to Children’s Hospital via Life Force with critical injuries. Two other juvenile occupants ages four and thirteen were transported to Children’s Hospital by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services and a sixteen year old was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.
Although the investigation into the crash is on-going, the preliminary evidence shows the 1992 Grand Prix traveling west bound on Hunter Road crossed the center line at the time of impact. The HCSO Traffic Division is handling the crash investigation.
