Press conference regarding "Safe Journey" program
Sheriff Jim Hammond along with members of the Governor’s Highway Safety Office will hold a press conference on January 6, 2011, 1:30 p.m. at HCSO East Annex located at 8395 S. Hickory Valley Road. This is to introduce the new “Safe Journey” child passenger safety device (car seat) program.
Sheriff Hammond is proud to present to the media the “Safe Journey” child passenger safety devices (car seat) program. This program is funded through a grant from the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office and administered through the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
The program is an educational outlet for community organizations and agencies interested in offering child passenger safety information to families and caregivers of young children. As motor vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of unintentional injury and death to children under the age of 14, car seats reduce the risk of death by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. Booster seats reduce the risk of injury by 59% compared to seat belts alone.
All media is invited to attend and meet members of the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office as well as Rebecca Campbell, Janet Howerton and Sharon Patten who are Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians for the “ Safe Journey” program.
