HCSO Explorer Post 2070 compete at Winter Fest in Gatlinburg,Tn.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 2070 attended the 2011 Winter fest Explorer & Venturing conference that was held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on February 4-6, 2011. The participants who attend compete in several different categories, which are all law enforcement related. They are also critiqued and judged on officer safety, teamwork, professionalism, and their communications skills.
The HCSO Explorers Post has ten active members who are trained and mentored by Sgt. Chris Harvey and Deputy Eddie Sledge. Also involved in the training is Corporal Spencer Daniels, HCSO Training Division and Corrections Officers Shawn Adams and Jeremi Vandergriff.
The different events in the competition are felony traffic stops, traffic crash investigation, burglary in progress calls as well as DUI stops and enforcement, active shooter, domestic violence and uniform inspection. With over 70 different Explorer Post entered in the competition, some from as far away as Florida and Louisiana, the competitive spirit was high.
The hard work, practice and preparation paid off as HCSO Explorer Post 2070 took first place in the Domestic Violence Scenario competition. This is a fine group of young people who are between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one and have a strong interest in the field of law enforcement and the HCSO.
