In the early morning hours of July 16, 2011, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Jail personnel as well as medical staff responded to an inmate who was having a medical emergency. The inmate was arrested and brought to the jail on July 14, 2011 by the Chattanooga Police Department on charges of Resisting arrest, Driving on Revoked, Improper Registration and an outstanding warrant for Possession of Controlled Substance. Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the inmate, identified as Gihon Hardaway age 37 to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and Internal Affairs Division are conducting an investigation concerning this death. The body has been transferred to the Hamilton County Medical Examiners for further investigation.
