Traffic crash with cyclist
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 8000 block of Hixson Pike this afternoon at approximately 3:00 p.m. on a crash between a vehicle and a bicycle. When deputies arrived on scene they found that Ricky King age 55 was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger on Crabtree Road approaching the intersection with Hixson Pike. He stopped at the stop sign and a bicycle rider traveling on the sidewalk crossed through the crosswalk going south bound. Mr. King stated he looked both ways and did not see any additional bicyclist or vehicles and proceeded to make a right turn onto Hixson Pike.
A second cyclist (juvenile) was then struck by Mr. King and thrown onto the hood of the truck. He appeared to have an injury to his wrist and was bleeding from his face. He was wearing a helmet. Mr. King then called for emergency assistance and the injured bike rider was transported to an area hospital by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services with what appeared to be minor injuries.
According to Corporal Paul Maupin, HCSO, no charges are being filed at this time.
