Sheriff Jim Hammond is proud to announce the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is the first Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee to utilize “CARFAX” to enhance the investigative abilities of detectives.

Both the Traffic and Criminal Investigation Divisions within the HCSO have been using this tool for several weeks. This will enable the investigator to verify all information is correct on vehicles from the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), to investigations involving fraud, theft, and other crimes. The investigators would have unlimited access to CARFAX vehicle history reports that would assist them to uncover fraud, dates and locations of recent events, unusual incident patterns, and dangerous pre-existing vehicle damage.
