HCSO Participates in 2015 Minority Health Fair

08/24/2015

Take Back Program

Hamilton County, TN - On Saturday, August 22, 2015, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office participated in the 2015 Southeast Tennessee Health Consortium's Annual Minority Health Fair at the East Gate Town Center Mall. This year's fair was sponsored by the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

This year's theme was "Empowering and Educating Minorities to Close the Health Gap."

In an effort to keep prescription drugs from being sold or traded illegally, falling into the wrong hands, or flushed into our community’s water supply, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Drug Take-Back personnel offered residents the opportunity to safely and responsibly dispose of their used, outdated, or unnecessary prescription medications.

The HCSO Drug Take-Back Program is a joint partnership with Tennessee American Water and the Hamilton County Coalition. This year's event brought in so many prescription medications from residents, the take back box had to be emptied twice.

Also participating in the event was the HCSO Safe Journey. Staff were on hand to educate the public on the proper selection, installation, and routine maintenance of child car safety restraints.

This year's event was a tremendous success with several thousand people in attendance. Special thanks to Captain Charles Lowery, Jr. and his staff for their participation in this important community event.
