HCSO Respond to Early Morning Home Invasion and Kidnapping
Hamilton County, TN - During the early morning hours of December 16, 2016, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an alleged home invasion and kidnapping.
The victim of this incident told deputies her estranged husband, John Henry Jones, broke into her Jenkins Road apartment and forced her, at gunpoint, to leave with him in her vehicle.
A short distance from her residence, the victim managed to get away from her husband by jumping out of her vehicle.
When a concerned citizen stopped to assist the victim, Jones reportedly rammed the citizen’s vehicle. Jones then fled from the scene in the victim’s vehicle before law enforcement could arrive.
The victim was transported to an area hospital and received treatment for minor injuries.
After an extensive manhunt Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Deputies, with assistance from Chattanooga Police Officers, located Jones at the Town Place Suites on McCutcheon Road.
Before deputies could take Jones into custody, he intentionally shot himself.
Jones was transported to a local hospital with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time.
An investigation into the events is still ongoing. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
